DMV Area Home Birth Midwives- A List

DC Metro Area Home Birth Midwives

DMV Home Birth Midwives List

The DMV (DC Metro Area including Northern VA and parts of Maryland) is rich in home birth midwives and midwifery practices. These midwives range between those who are CNMs (certified nurse midwives) and CPMs (certified professional midwives) and they range in their areas of expertise, their comfort zones in terms of how they practice and more.

Book your DMV home birth midwife early- they do take a limited number of clients per month and may often fill up months before your due date. Also, do your due diligence in interviewing them and asking them questions that might be important to you, and questions related to how they practice to see if their offering serves your needs. Without a doubt, the prenatal care you receive with a home birth midwife will always feel so much more personal than anything you will receive in a large scale hospital care setting where doctors see hundreds of clients a month. Enjoy the journey!

Note that many DMV area midwives will serve within a 30-60 mile radius of their location, so don’t be limited by the state they are located in! If you’re in NOVA, you might hire a midwife who is located in the MD area of the DMV and vice versa.  And to help you narrow down what types of questions you may want to ask your potential home birth midwife, look for my upcoming blog post, my older blog post on out of hospital birth here, or book an Ask Me Anything Consultation here.
