One of the most important decisions you make in your pregnancy is who you choose to be your provider. Pregnancy providers include midwives who are an excellent fit for all low-risk pregnancies ( Over 90% of pregnant people!) and who deliver in a hospital or out of hospital setting. These are some of my top recommendations for providers in the NOVA, DC and MD area. Being top providers is not a guarantee that your experience will always be the best; but it is a reflection of their overall culture and standards of care.

In certain cases, pregnancies which are considered high-risk require the care of an ob/gyn or maternal fetal medicine doctor. One of our favorite high-risk pregnancy teams is the GWU OB and MFM team because they generally practice informed consent and evidence-based medicine. Other situations, such as controlled gestational diabetes, etc, can still be under the care of a midwifery team.

The most important factor in a successful VBAC is the support of a truly VBAC-supportive provider. VBAC-supportive providers practice in ways that allow for the most room for a successful VBAC- including allowing your body to go into labor on it's own even if past 41 weeks pregnancy, allowing for inductions if your body medically needs it, and not putting any scare tactics/fears on you based on the size of the baby. Positive talk and no deadlines is key in a relaxed mama and more conducive to the type of birth you want! The following are the top 2 most supportive VBAC providers in the DC Metro area.
